Working as a nurse you provide the patients with care based on theoretical knowledge and clinical skills.

In your job you get close to people who are in a stressful situation.

You can become the patient’s most important contact to the surrounding world. Your ability to show empathy combined with your professional knowledge is often the difference between a positive and a negative experience for the patient.

Nursing consists of mainly four areas:

Facilitating nursing

You take care of the clinical nursing of the patient. Examples could be washing the patient, changing of dressings, administering medicine, giving injections and supporting the patient psychologically.

Managing nursing

You are in charge of the management of care and treatment of the individual patient.
You are also in charge of a number of administrative and coordinating functions between different groups of staff and you will often be in charge of the daily management of the job.

Conducting nursing

You communicate your nursing knowledge to other groups of staff, students, social workers, patients, relatives etc. Communication is facilitated through education – or as a part of a treatment plan where communication of your knowledge is important to ensure the best treatment for the patient.

Developing nursing

You contribute to a constant development of nursing. This is done through exchanging experiences with other nurses and other health care staff, through personal development and by reflecting on the theoretical and clinical potential in nursing.
