Clinical practice focuses on peoples´ experiences, circumstances and actions in relation to health and illness, nursing needs, nursing services and results, patient/nurse interaction, and on interdisplinary and intersectorial cooperation.
The student´s own professional and personal development will be in focus too.
Clinical practice will mainly take place in approved hospital settings and in social and health care institutions outside the hospitals. Each school of nursing is responsible for providing clinical placements to their students.
Please note that the clinical practice institution may not be located in the same area as the school.
During clinical practice you will become a member of the professional nursing team and you will connect what you have learned in the classroom and what you experience in clinical practice. You will also challenge your efforts when performing nursing on your own. The patients and your colleagues depend on your involvement.
In the clinical practice your clinical counsellor will be an experienced nurse. Together with the clinical counsellor you will plan your clinical practice period. During the clinical practice your responsibilities will expand.
You will take care of your own patients and be responsible for assessing, planning and evaluating their nursing care. Some of the responsibilities will be nursing care procedures such as mobilisation, change of dressings, administering of medicine, examinations, documentation etc.
